Flance Residence
Santa Fe, New Mexico

Arranged around a knoll, this home commands dominant views of the city of Santa Fe to the northwest as well as more intimate views of Sun Mountain and areas to the south. By leaving the knoll intact, it assured that the century-old pinon trees would remain to grace the entry courtyard, which also features stone retaining walls and lush landscaping. The homes spaces are arranged so that vista distances become more and more intimate as one moves from public areas to more private spaces.

The interior is filled with natural light, both from south-facing windows and from strategically placed skylights. The design was planned to incorporate the owners' specimen plants into the home by providing proper light, specially built planters and irrigation systems.
